Q&A with a fan fiction writer: riko_narumi

Hey! It's been a while since I last posted here. I've been a little busy with school recently. But still I have sent out a few questions to some people and you'll be seeing them posted soon.

Anyway, getting back to the point of this post. One of the people who agreed to answer a few questions from me is the person who goes by the name riko_narumi at Livejournal. As some of you may know I also have a Livejournal account (Jumping Over Rainbows) where I post my fiction and fan fiction works. I was looking for something to read last summer and I found riko_narumi's journal (Journey.Into.Space). I read some of her works and they are pretty interesting.

"Shake It Up" Dance Cover

Hello! One of the members of DreamCatchers, Pat, decided to do a dance cover of Kis-My-Ft2's "Shake It Up" during her semestral break. It's a solo project of hers so she did everything from the choreography (though she did use the same steps as the original version) up to the video editing. Of course she did ask help from other members of DreamCatchers as she can't dance and hold the camera at the same time!

Anyway, I sent Pat some questions via e-mail regarding her dance cover and here are her answers:

Introducing: Kirei Ningyou

As I’ve said in my previous entries, I will be featuring cover groups a lot. But before all that will be the introduction posts for each cover group. You’ve seen the introduction post of KIS-MY-BOYS and DreamCatchers and now it will be Kirei Ningyou’s turn.

Kirei Ningyou is an all-girl cover group that is giving tribute to one of the most famous filr trio in Japanese entertainment industry, Perfume.

A little background on Perfume: They are an all-girl trio in Japan. The three members: Yuka Kashino (Kashiyuka), Ayano Omoto (Nocchi), and Ayaka Nishiwaki (A-chan) all came from Hiroshima.

Kirei Ningyou had their first major performance last March 11, 2012 at the Jpop Hrand Festival. Kirei Ningyou started to perform as their group now during the Jpop Dance Cover competition and over 15 contestants they won as champion.

“We were really glad we won since there is only one group recognized as winner. The feeling before and after the performance was extreme since WE COVERED A GROUP without FANS in the VENUE. I mean we do not know any PERFUME FAN in the VENUE aside from some of our friends. And those people who supported us, are our J.E. fan friends. We are actually fans of Johnny's Entertainment talent, which includes ARASHI and NEWS. Before we actually cover Arashi in the JPOP KICK OFF FESTIVAL last NOVEMBER 2011 we also won the event as JPOP DANCE COVER WINNER.” ---Kirei Ningyou

Past performances include:
The Grand Pop Culture Fair
Asian Pop Expo 2012
Enchanted Culture Fest
J-Pop Music Festival
J-Pop Festival: The Grand Event

Introducing: KIS-MY-BOYS

KIS-MY-BOYS is a cover group giving tribute to KIS-MY-FT2.

A little background on KIS-MY-FT2 or as they are also known as Kisumai:

Kisumai is a 7-member Japanese boy band. Their name KIS-MY-FT2 is taken from the names of the 7 members: KItayama Hiromitsu, Senga Kento, Miyata Toshiya, Yokoo Watru, Fujigaya Taisuke, Tamamori Yuta, and NIkaido Takashi (the NI became 2 as the Japanese translation of 2/two is ni).

KIS-MY-BOYS’ friendship started through KISUMAI and their bond is made stronger by their common interest in the Japanese Pop (J-pop) Culture. In Manila, KIS-MY-BOYS is the first all-boy J-pop cover group. KIS-MY-BOYS promotes passion for J-pop and love for J-Pop artists.

The group, KIS-MY-BOYS, was launched last July 7, 2012. They are affiliated with: Kisumai Philippines, Kisumai Malaysia & World Fan Club. And the group won an award During the J-Pop Music Fest Dance Cover Contest where they won 1st place.

Their past performances include:
J-Pop Music Festival that was held at SM Megamall Cinema 10 last July 7, 2012
Asian Pop Expo that was held at Elements, Centris last September 2012
JE Day: KIS-MY-FT2 & NewS Ph Releases that was held at Astrovision, Trinoma last October 27, 2012

Now, the moment I know you have all been waiting for the introduction of the individual members:

Introducing: DreamCatchers

One of the things you’ll expect to see in this blog are features about cover groups. But of course first things first, I would have to make an introduction posts about the cover groups you’d frequently see in this blog.

The first cover group I will be introducing to you will be the cover group “DreamCatchers”

DreamCatchers have not held any public performance yet as there are some things in the way of that (one of the members is studying in the University of the Philippines Cebu while the rest are in Laguna). The group covers either Japanese or Korean artists, whatever song they think might be good for their range of voices. Of course all the decisions are made by the group, if one does not want to do the song then they will change that particular song.

Where did it all start? Well, these girls have been friends since high school and their bonds are made stronger by their common interest, fan girling. At first, DreamCatchers were supposed to be a group of aspiring writers and designers but eventually ventured out to be a cover group. Though in the cover group not really all of DreamCacthers are active, everyone still gives their support and does what they can for the cover group.

Get to know the members of DreamCatchers:

Behind the Scenes Shots During DreamCatcher's Loving U Photoshoot

Yes I know the first thing you noticed will be of course their group name. That’s not a typo or anything, that’s really how they want their group name to be written. The introduction post about DreamCatchers will come a little later. Anyway, on with business.

Last October 31, 2012, DreamCatchers held another photo shoot. Their past photo shoots includes their “Mori Girl” photo shoot and their “Kirai... Demo Suki ~Aishiteru~” (which they did for one of their cover). This time their theme is “Loving U.” Maybe you've noticed that their themes most of the time are song titles. I actually don’t know the reason behind it but maybe it’s because they (most of the time) do these shoot after they've covered a song.

If any of you are wondering why I am able to go to their photo shoots it’s because I've known them (and been friends with them) since we were in high school (that was way back in school years 2006-2010). But they've only been a cover group lately (maybe around the time we all entered college). Though I’m not part of the cover group I do what I can to help and support my friends.

Here are some behind the scenes pictures of what took place during their “Lovin’ U” photo shoot (I arrived a little late so I wasn't able to document when they were doing their make-up):
